In the case of a major or critical defect that affect the brakes, steering or suspession systems it will be essential to submit along with the regular documentation a certification, receipt or a similar document that confirms the repair of the defect in a car repair shop enrolled in the “Special Registry of Automobile Repair Shops” as stated in the regulation “Resolución de la Dirección General de Industria y Energía del 12 de Enero de 1998”.
TYPES OF DEFECTS
CLASSIFICATION OF THE DEFECTS
MINOR DEFECT
It’s not necessary to pass through the inspection again, but it would be required to be fixed before the next periodic inspection.
MAJOR DEFECT
After unfavorable inspection, the ITV station will give a period of 2 months to fix the defects and come back to pass the inspection again without having to pay extra fees. Once that period is over, you will have to pay a new ITV fee as it’s considered a new inspection.
CRITICAL DEFECT
If there is a severe defect within the vehicle that is a potential danger to its occupants, the vehicle must be transfered to its destination with another mean of transportation as these type of defects forbid travelling with it.
The ITV station will give a period of 2 months to fix the defects and come back to pass the inspection again without having to pay extra fees. Once that period is over, you will have to pay a new ITV fee as it’s considered a new inspection.
